Can you romance the characters?

I know, this is a partial lol question. But like in Harvest moon/Rune factory, is there a romance aspect? In the manga/one of the character CGs it looks like there's something like that for the guy who represents the male player. If so, is there same gender romance? Or do they treat you differently depending on if you are male/female?

More like you increase the friendship level and new levels are like a level up of said character also might unlock new features they have or more things that they could sell iirc

You can get stuff like this to show up if you raise your friendship level with them high enough. There wasn't much in Alpha that came with this so not sure what else they do, and since in the JP beta they made it harder to level up your partners, never got to max any of them out.

There are no "romance" options for any partners, save for ambiguous implications from character lines. You would have to stretch your imagination quite a bit to get anything out of that, period, but there are no differences there depending on your character's gender. The only time your character's gender makes a noticeable difference is when you and your party take a hot spring vacation later in the game--you can enter the side of the bathhouse matching your gender and choose one same-gender partner to have some dialogue with. You are rewarded special affection items for that particular partner.

Many of the voiced special partners have affectionate dialogue they may say while they accompany you, but it is generally innocuous in nature.
