Reason to communicate

Postby Xiriko » 21 Jul 2014, 18:31

This is a topic I never really thought on talking about openly like this but I suddenly thought "why not" and decided to post it.

First off I'd like to know if anybody here plays/played the JP version of this game and how late we are in terms of content and if any important contents regarding communication are still missing on our server... this is not a complaint about the server's state content related! I mean it's still relatively new so I wouldn't ask that, the thing is I'm just finding the game a bit dull when it comes to player communication, I'll try to explain the situation a bit better  please bear with me here:

So like... personally speaking I'm not exactly a pretty social individual on the net on the most part unless it's a relatively small group of people that play together or something but I think the game lacks quite a lot on reasons to actually reach to other players :? , random talk excluded, I'm actually talking about in game stuff since all you can ask other players to do with you is dungeon runs. trades, party based dungeons, a PROPER guild system, not too big of a problem but "chat group" just doesn't sound as nice as "clan" or "guild"...

I mean I'm just level 23 so I might be exaggerating but the only reason for me to reach to a party of players is if I want to grind or if I need help on some random quest I can't complete on my own, both of these generally end up the same way: you sit on near the entrance, someone shows up with the party icon over the character's head, you get inside the party, wait for it to be full, go in, clear, you leave the party, if you wanna grind then it's the same thing but now I see a new trend showed up about having 1 person clearing whole dungeon while 1 other one heals/buffs and the rest leech... that's just... no comment... This is pretty much the gist I've been finding and it happens most of the time without the parties saying much besides "do this/that", "I gotta go after this", etc (might be just me though, who knows  ).

What I'm basically trying to say is that I find MMOs without communication a bit boring and that I don't think this game gives you enough reasons to reach out to others besides random talk.

Also I don't mean to start any kind of heated discussion but I do want to hear opinions on this, is this all just my imagination or is there someone else thinking like this as well?... Also, if it does happen, does it get a bit better as you level up?

I really enjoy Onigiri but this current leech system that everyone seems to be okay with following is really making me not want to play at all. I mean I am a support so I have been doing nothing but leeching since I started joining parties but at least having all 4 other team members take part in clearing the dungeon kept me occupied so I'm not totally bored buffing/healing 1 person like I am now. If anything I should be getting more EXP than the other 3 members of the party because I'm actually putting in some kind of effort towards clearing the dungeon instead of standing still and doing nothing. Yet I still get the same amount of EXP that they do. Somethings gotta give and somethings gotta change because this current system for supports exp is bull.

Hopefully when they add new content to the game this will change(for a while) because people will have no choice but to work together to clear dungeons such as SF. Because the high level carry's they normally sit and wait for shouldn't be in that dungeon unless they want to grind there. They should be in the new high level grind spots with other people of their level. But I'm sure eventually this is going to happen all over again once more people reach the content cap, again.

Personally I wish the way things were setup that after a set amount of time in a dungeon if you were standing still and doing nothing you get no EXP. If this was the case this leech meta would be dead. Oh wait, no it wouldn't, because then everyone would just turn into fake supports and whip out their staffs. But even then this would still be kinda iffy. Walk up and hit/kill a mob, back to standing still.

I would say it's the problem that been lying around in recent MMO commu, it's the community rather than the MMOs themselves. Rather than the game not giving you reasons to communicate, people just don't want to do so outside of their circle, which is also kinda understandable , sorta.

As for low level leechers in Kaga lol, well, they ruin the game for themselves, not much else to say.

Am I the only one here who:

- Tries to support the carry even if I'm not a staff user by SP healing, better being a fake support than a stump doing nothing
- Talks to keep the party entertained, and eventually make new friends
- Kills some of the loose mobs for extra exp and sorta faster clear times
- Resu when the party isn't going well and would rather have x1 than watching the rest die
- Asks to remake parties when I notice someone suiciding/afking/obviously has nothing to contribute

- I don't mind fake supports as long as the sp you give is = to mine or greater. If anything you can give that buff to me(even though its not really necessary with my regen being more than enough) or another support within the party. I'm still not sure if invigorate stacks so that's why I bring that up(Leeching).
- Most people just stay totally silent. The most you will get out of people is "Brb" or "lag" unless you start a conversation.
- If someone else hasn't taken care of it already I would.
- Since I am the only support most of the time I usually don't have much of a choice if the carry seems to be doing poorly(leeching). If the whole party is working together and they're close to dying I'll sacrifice my x2 to help them keep theirs only if I'm not using an EXP boost. Cause you know, the struggle is real for supports when it comes to exp.
- Never had to do this but I would if it came down to it.

No point having more than 1 SP buffer since it doesn't stack.
- Talks to keep the party entertained, and eventually make new friends
I usually alt tab and come back to walk and collect items, so no.
- Kills some of the loose mobs for extra exp and sorta faster clear times
There shouldn't be any extra mobs if the carry knows what he is doing and the other party members don't randomly run around attacking and aggroing mobs.
- Resu when the party isn't going well and would rather have x1 than watching the rest die
If you can contribute something, sure. Usually everyone else other than the carry and support is useless though.
- Asks to remake parties when I notice someone suiciding/afking/obviously has nothing to contribute
I've partied with a few carries that get angry when someone aggros and breaks up their nicely formed monster mob. People that try to help but just end up causing more trouble are useless. I think the best thing to do is just to ask the carry what he would like everyone to do before giving your judgement.
