As staff you should rely on spell more then auto attack, and having staff low level doesn't change much of ur damage/heals.

I am still using a level 5 staff with now holy Light/Pillar rank 4.

Actually, your stats/staff affinity affects more than damage. But lots of difference of attack can change your damage/heals too .

Not to mention staffs/magatamas which modify your affinities or increase your base healing.
