Ugh, these exp rates.

Thing about level grinding is that Onigiri don't have the Everquest/Star Wars Galaxy/Ragnarok way of grinding where it was friends, good gear, hats and/or exploration first, levels second.

Onigiri is a theme park MMO where you're on a rail throughout Japan to kill some guy with big hands, and by the time you did all your stuff for said town and field, you can't grind very well and you're getting killed by a poorly animated and weird looking dragon, and if you have any eggs left, a demonic bishonen dude. Good luck getting to Kanto.

I really don't think the exp rate is THAT bad, it's just much faster on JP server from the sounds of it. You haven't suffered a devastating grind until you've went from 92 -> 95 on Everquest 2 with no exp potions, no vitality, and no group to help you out :P literally 5 hours = 1 level.

But it stands to reason that if something does not change, the length of time it takes will just continue to grow as one gets closer to the cap. This after all is how majority of MMO's work, so it's not far fetched to think there will be 5 hours per level in the near future unless something changes. Of course since they are wiping accounts at the end of CBT, they can (and should) play with the exp rates to find a good balance while it won't be detrimental to the game overall. I'm sure most of us here have all played Asian grinders, it is something the East is well known for, but I've never played a game where the grind started so early, and that included EQ.

That's true. Odd thing is, when I made my initial post in here, I was level 5 and it still moved at an okay speed, but level 6 seems to be dragging on in comparison. One thing I noticed is the overworld mob exp and those 'Outbreak Quests' which seem pretty cool -- mob exp in general sucks but 2~3 exp a kill is rough, and the OQ's do not seem to giving exp or monetary reward at all.

The exp rate difference between the English version and Japanese one is huge. In the Japanese one the tutorial is longer. Instead of just beating up that one monster it actually has you fight a kappa when it mentions dodging/blocking, and for weapon switching it has you fight a giant crab. Then we proceed onto that dragon. I was lvl 3 before stepping into town

you call that bad? you should play silkroad online at lvl 54 4 hours grinding mobs your lvl with a exp boost which was 200% bonus exp, wouldnt even get you 15%. Sure there was a way to manipulate how much exp you got but that required hours of grinding. Since they had this odd formula if your skill lvl matched your character lvl the more exp your character would get but if it didnt you got more skill experience instead. I dont think you can find a worse grind then Silkroad online. a lot of there quest literally required you to kill 400+ of the same mob for an item that didnt have a high drop rate. the only upside to that game was the skills you could learn they looked cool

they eventually grew a brain and lowered the grind dont know by how much but they did it in an odd way. instead of just patching it in they basically copy and paste the game added an -R onto the games name and released it to the world calling it an improved version with improvements that could have been done with a patch.
