Question(s) about the coming RTA mode

I just read the first explanation at http://onigiri.cyberstep.com/special/19 ... .html#time

That leaves me under the impression that it will ONLY work with new characters dedicated to it.
I already have 5 active characters, I do NOT need or want to make one more.
So, will the RTA mode be accessible to existing characters, or is that some kind of BS ?
