Do Japan Gaming Joys Crimp Western Thrills?

Hi All!

I'm fresh up for a new round of time-killing gaming, but first have to comment on all the legitimate gripes about Onigiri posted. My request to GMs and Mods here: Please tell us how Japanese gamers feel about the game. Are different subtle Rising Sun gaming joys causing a clash of gaming thrills here? Are there features diluted and teeth-pulled to accommodate the different gaming audience and cultures? Just asking. I'm no Einstein or pretend to.

On gameplay complaints:

Yes, I'm just a lvl 9 going on 10 MMO newbie, but I skimmed enough posts to wonder; How best juice-up the game? Is Onigiri held rigid to "traditional" Japanese lore or can its theme envelope be stretched? Maybe these ideas are ready in the game so just pass me by then, but how about some "equalizer" spells for high level Bosses or forbidden areas to inject some heavy punishment? Like having a Boss or area that casts spells that knock you down to lvl 10 or so for a couple of days? Or an Benedict Arnold spell that turns hapless gamers against their mob-fighting buddies? Or even defect to the Boss? Or a "take a chance" "Pandora's Box" drop box that could do the same things if you're unlucky? (just injecting a little Vegas here! :D ) How about a "permanent death" option that spices up the thrill because if you lose your character is deleted for real? For super-pros tried of slaying Bosses, have a level where they themselves become "King of the Hill" (an "anti-Boss"?) and must defend against other gamers out to take them down? Why not a CS monetary prize for ace and exceptional gamers like this, etc?

This was on CNN, but PayPal is thinking of "micro-payments" for game companies to literally nickel and dime gamers for purchasing tokens and articles and what have you instead of spending whole dollars which puts off lots of gamers and generates low income for game companies. CS should consider getting on that. I'd like to see high-ranking and royal "Obi Wan" points for ace gamers who take time advising and accompanying low level-gamers. Can a member of a party get accidentally "injured" by another player fooling around? How about some serious demerits for that to make others more careful -- and skillfull -- especially during a frenzied melay?

Hope this was more hopeful than wind, so now I'm off to raiding some shrines! With my trusty dagger :D D:

You know, I really didn't deserve that comment. I being nice and curious posting my views for earnest comment, not to tease with heads. I came to game not show how clever I am. Some us might remember that saying that if one has nothing nice to say about someone then just be civil and say nothing. It's called netiquette.

theres nothing wrong with the post. especially when you consider that there isnt exactly new ideas in that post, everything has been done before in other games (including temporary level drops. yes. [though the only ones i can remember using that are dungeons and dragons ruleset games])

the issue with some of the points you suggested is the high disbalance between survivability and the ability to damage foes. any kind of mind control and/or pvp would not work because of this except CS actually developed a whole different damage calculation specially for those purposes (which is highly unlikely unless they actually plan on integrating PvP into the game)

I'm actually mostly amused by your topic. The tone of it is incredibly hard to pick out, so that's why my brain exploded trying to figure out if you're serious or just tongue-in-cheek.

The reason why it sounds like tongue-in-cheek is because:

Followed by a laundry list of risky options... this is something that game designers/developers have been habituated to ignore. It's not that the ideas are necessarily bad, it's that ideas are a dime a dozen - pretty much everyone has them and they have enough to rant your head off, always. And the way you mused about it was a bit like "I wonder what it'd be like if the sun had polka dots. Or death lasers." Sure, we can muse about it, but where are you going with this? Given the high cost of most of these ideas, it's likely that you haven't thought much of the feasibility, which is sort of a prerequisite at the workplace before you start proposing months of work to your colleagues.

Does that make sense?

Welcome.

There's also that quote about people up high forgetting where they came from. Most people don't dump on newbs in gaming so don't let the occasional j__ get you down. No honest question is silly or worthless, however you should transplant your good points to the Feedback and Suggestions topics where it's more appropriate. The Japanese Onigiri gamer query is a good one though.

Ranking or whatever anyone wants to blame here isn't required to see that the ideas are lacking some legs and letting CS do the entire "how will we do this?" process is just asking to be screwed over.

Then again they can just too ignore the well put explanation on how do it and just screw the players over.

Ideas are nice

We don't need crazy ideas to be added, we need obvious ideas to be added.
We need obvious fixes, obvious features, obvious systems obviously working, this game lacks the obvious, that's why it's so bad now.

We need the devs to get some obvious common sense into their minds to realize how obviously unfinished and broken this game is.
Just do the obvious and play the game you are selling! And I'm tired of saying obvious!
