Is there a set plan to how things go for grinding sessions?

I'm rather..intimidated (not sure if that's the right word) by all these people nearby. They're rather involved in doing the runs, and I feel a little inadequate next to them being at my level of 50. I'd really like to join a party, but I don't want to go in without knowledge of how to complete it in a timely fashion. I know for Shinoda forest, the first mobs were rounded up and dispatched by the carries, and then after moving on to the next bit you'd start with the left side. (At least, that's how it's been for the parties I've run with).

I'd very much like to know if there is, please and thank you.
