Wiki NavBar Changes

Postby Ryxa » 06 Nov 2014, 00:16

Alright, so while I was doing some housekeeping/patrolling on the wiki, I came to realize something. The OnigiriNav that's placed at the bottom of a majority of the wiki pages is... very inefficient. I'm looking for opinions and what people want to see happen with it, and whether we should even change it at all.

Here's the look of the current NavBar.

Looks nice and neat right? Here's the problem... opening any of those collapsed sections looks like this.

And here's what it looks like when I go to make edits to the various Navs.

This is a small section of just one of the Navs.

It quickly becomes very cluttered and hard to look at. Therefore, I'm going to list a few things I see as pros and cons of the current system and leave it up to you guys to tell me what the general consensus of the community is regarding changes to the NavBar.

Pros-
Able to quickly navigate to the major sections of the wiki regarding items/magatama/etc.
Able to see every page listed in said sections.

Cons-
Able to see every page listed in said sections. (Yes, this repeat is intentional.)
Dramatically increases load time for mobile devices as the "collapsed" list is expanded by default and cannot be collapsed.
Manually update every single item for every single section.

That said, what is it that you guys would like to see with the NavBars? Would you like something simpler like having a link to the category pages rather than every item, or do you have a different idea in mind?

I would probably prefer

which I think would be fine as long as no info is lost.

Collapsed Nav Bar.

Expanded Nav Bar.

Here's the current version of the OnigiriNav after I changed it around. Opinions? Am I missing anything? Also, there seems to be a template for an Accessory Nav and Quest Nav bars. I can include those as well if desired.

With so much of the fat trimmed is it even necessary to have collapsing windows anymore? Excluding weapons everything is a single line as it is.

Personally I hate standard wiki formats because it's always a rabbit hole of clicks. Would much rather have as much information as possible presented directly in clean, simple manner.

I've removed the collapsible tag from the NavBoxes. Honestly, I just liked the animation of them opening and closing despite it being a little extravagant. :3
