Taking Some Advice

For a while now I've seen people talking about the advantages of focusing on one weapon and one stat, and many have recommended I do that. I've seen a lot of people talking about it, so I started to think there must be something to it then. So, since starting a second account would be a hassle, and since I've royally boned Dancer Lancer, I decided to have the Valkyries take him off to Valhalla, and start a new character, one who is focusing on Pow stat, and using only swords. So, without further ado, I introduce Spirit Sabre:

Image

(He looks more sinister there than I realised, not sure what happened exactly. In the Beauty Salon he looks a lot less... soulless) He's levelled up faster than I'd have liked, but that won't last long, I'm sure of it. It's a bit too early for me to be sure that this whole one stat/one weapon thing actually works for me, but I decided to take people's advice and try it anyway. Dancer Lancer was a lost cause. Too many stat points wasted on VIT and DEX, too much ryou wasted on weapons I rarely even used. IF this system turns out to be feasible enough, then I'll end up doing the same thing to Magic Maelstrom. That's another struggling character. He might still be salvageable though, but I think it would take a lot of work. My other characters all seem to be doing fine, so I'll stick with what I've got for them, but Dancer Lancer was beyond help I think, unless I wanted to throw a ton of money at him, and I just don't make enough for that big a cock-up.

At the moment, this is more of an experimental thing, to see if it really does work well, so hold onto your gloating for the time being. And if it turns out it does work well, I guess I'll just have to bend over and take it. That's all for now, but I'll keep y'all posted on my impressions of this strategy. I'll probably play as him a bit more tomorrow to try and catch him up to my other characters. So, well that's all for now. I've said pretty much everything I wanted to at this stage. I can't be a hundred percent sure it's working for me or not just yet.

It's probably not necessary to discard all your characters if you use the free stat reset given after kyoto. Realistically, you can probably scrape through up to there using affinity magatama and well enhanced weapons. At least then you'll keep your ryou, skill levels and items.

Just stat reset.

I don't plan on discarding all of them, but Dancer Lancer was too messed up. Even if I did a stat reset on him, I'd have an inventory full of crap that I'd wasted millions on. Restarting a new character was much more feasible. Granted, I *could* have grinded for Ryou, but then Dancer Lancer would've ended up being about level 90 before he was fit to leave Kyoto. That kind of repetitive grinding is the reason I've dropped a few games in the past, and in those cases such grinding was necessary, there was no way around it. My other characters are all doing better than he did. Virtual Demon and Loli_Yangire are doing excellently at the moment, they're my two main badasses, so there's no way I'm scrapping them. Warlock Warlord and Midori Tsukino are doing pretty well too, and I don't see a reason to scrap them either. Magic Maelstrom's struggling a little at the moment, but I'm pretty sure I can salvage him. Dancer Lancer was the only one I deemed beyond hope. Don't misunderstand, it's not like I wanted to get rid of him, not after putting in that much effort. This wasn't a decision I came to lightly, but I decided this was the best move in the long run. As for losing Ougi, he only had one. A couple Rank VII skills as well were lost, but nothing more serious than that. No real life money went into developing him at all, so really I've lost nothing. Well, other than time anyway.

After today's session, I'm still uncertain whether this method is working out for me. I'll know for sure around about Yamataikoku. That's when most of my characters stopped blazing through effortlessly and started having to work harder. That being said, I did clear the Kumaso region far faster than usual, and I've never challenged Sakurajima Depths Hell at that low level before either, with such basic weapons to boot (the strongest being Ochimusha Sword +10). So, maybe it is working out. We'll just have to see. Like I say, Yamataikoku should be the area that highlights it.

Well I did use Oni Dagger for most of Kikaigahara before getting a decent Flame Sukedachi. Later on I got a Kikuichimonji, Nameless Sword and Ochimusha Sword. I've got a Durandal as well, but I might hold off and see if I can get a higher grade one before I start splurging money.

I have the audacity to admit:

I'm more screwed than you are. On all my characters.

You know why I've been making threads about oc and bazaars?

It's because I spent 700 usd for 7000 oc and within two months I'm left with 969 oc even after selling 4 mango magatamas and I'm still royally screwed.

Not embarrassed to say I'm still new to the game and only got level 75, 85, 90 and 100 on my 4 characters thanks to dagger peak leech for sp gacha to roll a musashi. In reality, my main ought to be level 30.

End result, I out levelled my partners and could not successfully make a decent weapon, hence meaning I used oc to buy weapons.

My current position is:

66 points across all stats on my main (Hybrid)
3 level 8 partners (Kaguya, Ibaraki, Amaterasu), 1 level 15 partner (Susanoo) and the rest level 20 partners on my level 100 main.
Currently stuck on sewers as the cyphers I bought can no longer suffice.
Extracted all the skills I wanted and got rid of the weak weapons from which I extracted the skills before I evolved them as I did not know I can no longer evolve skills after extraction.

6031 oc wasted on:
Musashi partner (Legendary pet from Solomon's store. Oops, I mean awesome partner)
Flipping magoroku and mikas when Dagger Peak came out like I was at the Grand Exchange, because I thought these event swords will become tradable discontinued 'rares'
400 friendship items to level partners
Aidamas coz I panicked and thought warding was closing when Cyberstep wanted to close crag gargoyle and golden weapon hunt youen but never did so when I can't find a party I bought magmatas of keenness to dissolve into aidama with Kaguya.
Made aidamas into magmata of agitation purely on the basis that 'it is a rare worthy of collector value' (Lucky someone corrected me before I made unease, saying that in this game no one gives a damn about rarity unless it has really good stats)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And finally yeah, I'm not used to trolling or even sarcasm on the forums which resulted in me taking things a bit seriously because Runescapers like me are used to getting babysat by the Forum Moderators who hide offensive posts for trolling, name calling or even sarcasm on official runescape forums.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In conclusion I am royally screwed. And a lot of oc will be needed to pull me out of this giant mess.

And yes, as someone else said, this is the consequence of bringing in another game's tactics and using those as the basics though she felt sorry I had to learn it the hard way since back on Runescape we had useless items like half wine jugs, pumpkins and easter eggs sky rocket to around 100m maximum (they're no longer that price now and has fallen to around 20 to 30m since) and party hats that give no stats and serve no purpose other than being cosmetic ugly paper hats to a whopping 2 billion.

Guess I need to read this game's guide for beginners now -.-

PS: Where's a proper guide? The beginner's guide on the official site here does not help much in terms of best magmata for what classes or best weapons etc.

Ouch. That sounds bad. Really really bad. I don't know if there's any exceptionally detailed guides around. Where Magatama are concerned, I'm just wondering whether it's better to have, for example: a Rank 2+ Twin Sword magatama or a Rank 6+ TS magatama. I'm guessing there's a difference, but I can't really see anything that explains the difference. Right now I'm using magatamas with high rankings, but for all I know that could be screwing me over. I'd also like to know the difference between skill force and affinity. Maybe then I'll understand why people have recommended I focus on SF for now and only build affinity later, once I have Amaterasu.

Aside from those two areas, I'm just playing it by ear. This game's very different to most RPGs I've played, so that's caught me off guard. I've more or less adapted to the differences by now, but if it wasn't so different, I'd be a much stronger player by now, much further along in the game as well despite my cautious play style.

Affinity caps at 3k until 100-115 where it starts increasing again up to 6k which is rather easy to obtain with satan weapons ,maxing your main weapon stat and titles which is why it's recomended you don't put points on other stats early on so that you have enough affinity without the need to sacrifice magatama slots that are better used for skill force or elements which are harder to cap. As for your Rank 2+ skill force magatama question if you look at how much skill force it gives usually the higher rank the more skill force it gives such as neko rank 5+ gives 45% skill force while inari rank 3+ only gives 18% from what i remember, generally you would want rank 5+ or rank 6+ skill force magatama since ougis cap at rank 6 anything higher than that would be stupid.
