And uhh, who ever told you about crit heals..?
I'll admit I've never tested it on Energy Balls, but i've yet to see such "crit" heals on any other kind of heal. I currently have 38 crit at the moment and I have yet to see an increased heal value on the skills Cure, heal, healing, and sanctuary. Maybe Energy balls are different, but it's something I have never actually seen. It might be that you accidentally stacked two on each other and forgot about as you moved around the dungeon. If crit heals did exist.. i'd be healing 15k+ cures ;_;
But yeah, like Rocksilver says, Frost Glaive/Ice bolt is probably THE best mage skill you can find out there in terms of versatility- and by that, I mean better than ougis too. Each set of spikes deal three hits, and once you level it to rank VII, you can potentially do 9 hits onto a large/wide monster. Not to mention, hitting it straight in the middle of the glaives (what I like to call the sweet spot) usually nets you about 2x~3x the damage of what you'd normally get if you didn't hit there. I personally am NOT a fan of call lightning. I find Earth glaive superior in every way and i'd rather add that slot into something like Fireball/Hellfire or Electric-shot/Thundercrash (which i hit 50k+ crits on echigo estate 5 man hell mobs).
I was speaking to a friend of mine who saw me in action and she wondered if the Wis count had some effect the way healing spells does for MND stats. It was interesting enough to ask here, in the magic section. If anyone could point me in the right direction for this hypothesis, would appreciate it.
Depends on what you meant. The only thing wisdom does for staves is that it reduces SP cost of both wand and staff skills for every 10 points of wisdom. Other than that, Wisdom doesn't affect healing spells in any direct way. There is a chart right here if you wish to see actual stat specifics: http://onigiri.wikia.com/wiki/Stats#Wis_.28Wisdom.29
And again, most people that going hybrid for mind, increase their mind stat to 50 or 60 max, in order to use rapid storm (rank V) or meditation/extend heal (rank VI).
Well that's where people start branching off and deciding whether they want to build dex for the crit and dps/cooldown reduction or go hybrid support and invest the rest into mind (like what I did). Either one is good, but you shouldn't be speccing anymore into wisdom if you've already maxed out your wand affinity.
