whats the use of monster cards?

Monster cards are needed to fill up your bestiary, which will provide information about a monster's strength, weakness, drops and general information. To fill 100% of your bestiary entry for a specific monster type, you need to collect at least 5 monster cards of that monster type.

Collecting a certain amount of specific monster cards will also unlock specific titles for you to succeed later on when you unlock Amaterasu. But these titles are rare and the better ones usually have other requirements.

Editing my post since I'll prob be reply locked for a bit:
1. A few titles will have a requirement of having obtained x amount of y monster's card.
2. Titles are names of famous japanese people/legends which you can succeed and obtain benefits of stats/weapon affinity/etc from.
3. (Spoilers) Amaterasu is a loli-goddess that you will save after the Kyoto arc who will let you succeed these titles after you have met the "requirements" and you can unlock more titles to choose from by raising friendship with her.

It's probably not true, but I swear I get rare drops more often the more cards I have from that monster

It's only a few of them, and most of the ones that do don't really have stats good enough to warrant succeeding the title.
