Oni Gamer "M.D."?

Postby Leafay » 19 Jul 2014, 16:51

Hi All!

(I finally made level 9 and trying to put away the Durma Boss!} :D

I don't want this misinterpreted as a game feature request but just a sheer fun notion!

Is it possible for a gamer to post their stats and info for experienced players to diagnosis and make "guess-timates" of recommendations for improvement as in best weapons or tactics according to your strengths and personality? I don't even know if such is possible to do with any accuracy but many of you are pros so I'm asking! :D

For example these were my Equip and Status info from a week ago (I might be missing others more telling like maybe skill set ratings? -- my ignorance!)

Type Daring Exp 5497 NEXT 6566 LVL 6

Zero F1 thru F5 items

POW 15+1
Vit 9+0
Wis 5+0
Mnd 2+0
Dex 7+1

Max HP 234
HP Recovery 104
Max SP 120
SP Recovery 110
Attack 158
P. Def. 136
M. Def 80
Critical 5

Weapons Oni Dagger 22
Nora Twin Blades 32
Stone Battleaxe 45
Manjusri Talisman 26

Gokusotsu Magatama 16/26
Hakurai Magatama

Auxiliary Info: My fighting tactic is mostly hit and run slash and run. I use up revival points and food to win at the brink a third of the time (I dislike waiting a long time for my HP to fully recover -- impatient, I know). I've manged to clear normal of all dungeons except Dreams by my second try. I use my partners late for maximum staying HP-Bar mileage when taking in the boss. I am using an a old Thinkpad R60 keyboard which makes maneuvering my avatar gawky and jerky sometimes but I think I just get by scoring (should I build up my "robustness" over skill in such a case?). I'm still brushing up on how smelting and enhancing and magatamas work but seem to get by so far. I swear I don't recall ever saving Lady Shizuka from any Kamiku, but she's made herself my partner anyway

---------------------------------------------

There we go! I'm sure I missed getting other vital data but I'm sure you get the gist! So is it possible to diagnosis the effectiveness of a gamer by such info and make recommendations on ways and methods to quickest improve their grinding or questing? Just want to know for fun! ;D

Thanks for any input!

I'm not a specialist but looking at your stat build I'm guessing you're going full power build or something around that, what I can say about it...

First I would let go of the Talisman and the Twin Blades as one of them is Wisdom or Intelligence based (it's one of them, not sure and I'm kinda lazy to look right now xP) and the other is Dex based so your damage with those will be a bit low.

Power types tend to go for Swords, Odachis and Axes as far as I can remember right now so if you can trade those 2 off for another set or simply one of these you probably will see some results by just having them.

About what I can't say, have you been Enhancing and Smelting your weapons? Yoshitsune helps a lot with that and your weapons get quite a decent boost if you Enhance them at least...

What else... ah yes, I recommend you try and play around on the dungeons of that area if you can't beat the Daruma Boss (or any boss at all really), you get extra XP/levels and weapons for Shizuka to identify and for you to use to enhance/smelt, you also get extra money which is never unwelcome o:

Apart from that I really don't know what I can tell you :/ also if I'm treating you like a newbie do excuse me, just that I'm trying to be as detailed as I can be so that you don't have any doubts.

There isn't a lot I can say about your setup from a week ago, but as the one above me said, it does look like you are favoring your atk stat. If you are I'd suggest deciding on if you want to be a "heavy weapon user" or a "swordsmen".

If you decide to use heavy weapons (ie. axe/odaichi) then you will want to sink most of your stats into atk and vit (mainly atk though).
every now and then you could drop some points into your dex though for the crit boost it gives. every weapon loves crits.

Now if you decide to use swords then just focus of atk and dex(again raise your atk most).

The character type you chose though is best for twin blades and bows, I must add. But because you have already sunk so many points into your atk it's not very easy to set up for using twin blades now. (Unless you pinch out the cash to buy some OC's and buy a stat reset item from the cash shop.)

From what you said in the aux info, I'll guess you'll prolly do best as a swordsmen. They aren't the best for DPS, but they get the job done. Swords have a pretty neutral atk speed and can combo four basic hits.

Also, I suggest you go full power as much as you can (try to reach roughly 85~+ in pow before considering another stat, trying to hit 100 is fine too but will require a lot more stat points) before maybe dividing into wis, dex, or mnd (this is based on your preference but if you wanna capitalize on dmg then you should prob go with dex)
I would not recommend going vit because you'll be on the brink of death because any survivability gained from vit mean close to nothing as it pales in comparison to the deadly attacks of everything in general.

Also, when choosing power type as said by the people prior, you have 3 weapons to choose from. It's best if you pick one to specialize on so you can focus your resources on that sole weapon to make it do the most dmg with proper equipment (weapon, skills, magatama)

Swords: (heavily ougi reliant late game, a really good option for dealing damage and being quick about it but without ougis can't really keep up with aoe damage)

Oodachi: (Theoretically this is the strongest weapon type in the game in terms of everything it can do, or so slifer has made me believe, racks up damage and aoe and is probably the truest glass cannon in a game where glass cannon combat is meta.

Axe (Slow, but you can slam mobs face in. Kinda lackluster compared to the other two, but hits like a truck when you connect skills. This weapon doesn't shine at all until roughly around late game so it's actually very likely that some people use other weapons to slam themselves through the content before making the switch and showing the weapons true merits. Not many people go this route because it's difficult, but it's not like it's completely unviable if you make the change in late-game where you'll be more likely to gain access to whatever you may need to make the weapon viable.

Oni dagger can last quite a while (if you plan to do normal mode for dungeons) it can take you at the very least to all the way to the start of kyoto if you play well. Using the base weapon will probabily allow you increase your proficency at the combat and becoming more skilled overall. (or maybe it will serve as a test to see how good you are now and allow you to see where you need to work on)

I can probably give more advice later if you have anything else you want addressed that possibly someone else hasn't given. (Though this database may be limited, I'll try what I can)

Hi All!

Well, I'm the doorstep of the Ooyama residence a second time after getting royally crisped by the three-eyed geezer in there (it's fun seeing other players dash inside and hearing them get thrashed and bashed in there!) :D Also it's nice to see how friendly the players are out the field here! Nice change!!

Okay I've been a bad girl not taking doctors' orders from your past posts but I will be taking your recommendations today. For now, below are my most recent stats. Would you consider them an improvement from a week ago? I'm seriously looking to configuring myself into using spears or arrows (either I'm using the Log Bow or Bamboo Bows wrong but I'm not shooting any arrows! My avatar doesn't seem to reflect the weapons I pick as well, like only carrying one sword instead of twin swords or a bow. Bug?). Some of you say my config is stronger for using swords but I'd REALLY like to change that. This getting up close and slashing away between being bashed and stomped on really sucks. You're right about that.

LVL 9

Type Daring Exp 14489 NEXT 17839

POW 15+1
VIT 10+1
WIS 5+1
MND 2+0
DEX 10+2

MAX HP 317
HP Recovery 105
MAX SP 132
SP Recovery 113
Attack 158
P. Def 157
M. Def 83
Critical 6

Oni's Dagger 22
Log Bow 59
Manjusri of Flame 62
Heavenly Nora Twin Blades 78

Gorkusotsu Magatana
Black Glass Marble
Hakurai Magatama

(Below Allocate)

0 136
0 136
0 97
0 26
0 104
0 136
0 104
11 52

So to mend the error of my ways I've got to reconfig my settings into using spears or arrows if possible, but the Oni YouTubes don't go into detail on doing that! Once I can start poking monsters with long long spears or arrows it'd be fun to see how those stats change! :D

To be honest, your build right now has gotten in my opinion, arguably worse. This game can be extremely unforgiving in stat distribution and trying to spread into multiple areas in the early stages hurts side benefits of stats.(http://onigiri.wikia.com/wiki/Stats has a list of the stats and the bonuses they provide after putting x amount into a certain area) It may not show now, but the monster hp feels like it increases almost exponentially due to a level gap. To counter this, it's vital that you spend all your points on the sole stat beneficial for your primary weapon to try and maximize your damage as much as possible until late game where you have slightly more room to breathe. This basically results in almost requiring cookie cutter building (pure) until late game where they give you more space to make a more unique build.

A spear build would require a reliable personality which focuses on vit and mnd, 2 key stats for spears. (dex is an ideal option as well and can be interchanged with mnd)

As for bow, both daring and cautious personalities would be acceptable options, putting in pure dex would be the ideal option and maybe sparing a few points into either wis, mnd, or pow when you're at later stages in the game.

Also your type doesn't actually restrict you from using any weapon but it's very apparent which weapons people specialize in when they actually get into combat. Also, I'll state again if I haven't already but it's vital to pick one sole weapon to utilize with exception of staff (which can be used as long as you have enough mnd) Just keep identifying and you'll get some of your weapon type eventually. (comes with a free session of angst when you get little or no weapon of which you desire)

If you can tough it out, near the end of kyoto, after repairing benkei, a free stat reset will be given to you to remake your character if you so desire.
Alternatively, since it seems like you're still pretty early in the game, remaking your character isn't as painful of an option but could use some consideration.

I'm afraid my issue has been wasting your time and good advice because of this:

So apologies and I'll see what I can do to salvage what I can from my badly skewed stats!... Thanks for your educational diagnosies!

People already got the stat advice covered, so I will nitpick a different thing.

Specifically, the Log Bow you had (have?) equipped. If you look at it, it should have around 80-90 durability - most weapons have 800-1000. It is a junk weapon that will break super fast, avoid things like that.

Also, don't worry too much about the mistakes you've made on your stats so far. As a Bow/Twin Blade user, I had around 20 Pow, 20 Vit, and 20 Wis (which i mistakenly thought applied to staves), and the rest in Dex before I read up on stat allocation strategy around level 30. I still made it to the end of Kyoto to get the free respec, and continued on from there. You've wasted far fewer stats than I, so your build can definitely be salvaged. Just keep in mind what everyone has said here!

Hi!

NoBake & Xiriko & SeekerFate & Ginnei, I'm SO going to take your great advice to heart now!!! :) Like I said in another topic but what's always top of my list, I REALLY appreciate super-pros who don't put rank novices down because they remember where they came from! I wish most in real life-life lived up to that!! I hope to find a low level party of guys like you all to learn and stick with! Thanks for the education!!! :)
