What language(s) can you speak?

Postby HelixDraxzonyx » 19 Dec 2015, 19:47

I'm a little curious to find out what languages people can speak, and see if there's any unusual ones out there (like Klingon). For my part: I speak English, Bad English, Bad Japanese, and I've just started learning Finnish as well. If my puny brain can handle it, I'd like to learn Arabic as well, because that seems like an interesting language.

English and some sort of Spanish...

I suck at writing Spanish but can read it and speak it (though if people can understand me depends on where I am OTL).

I've also studied French and Mandarin/Chinese before but I wouldn't really say I can speak them...

I was taught French at school, but none of it really sank in. Whereas Japanese, that seems to stick. I'm not up to conversational level yet (mostly due to time issues and no-one to speak the lingo with) but if I really gave it the old college try, I could probably reach that level fairly quickly. I speak the odd word or two of Spanish, Latin, Russian, Danish, Norwegian, Mandarin, Korean, German, Arabic, and Italian, but it's literally a couple of words. I tend to use foreign words or phrases in my writing, but most of that comes from Google Translate so I can't be too sure of it's accuracy.

Finnish is a pretty intriguing language I have to say. Not really as complicated as it looks. I expect it's easier to learn as a foreign language than English is.

English is my primary language. I do know some German (I am of German descent), some Japanese, and the occasionally word or two of Spanish.

No, I don't know full languages. Besides English.

EDIT: I would say I speak Ente Islanese, but that's difficult to even type. So... Yeah. It make for a funny time when people try to figure it out though!

Well that was weird. My brain automatically translated that into English, even though I've never seen this "願" kanji before. I think my brain's finally starting to absorb the information I've been trying to pump into it. At last. Maybe next year I'll be able to pass the JLPT. I don't see it happening this year, but next year's a possibility.
