Game Quality

Postby Roxxie » 05 Jul 2014, 14:50

After playing non-stop for several days, I just want to address the quality of the game, pointing out a few good and bad points. This may be heavily based upon opinion.

Good Points:
Weapon/Upgrade/Reforge/Grade System (Almost perfect. Maybe a bit complicated at times, but in a good way.)
Magatamas (Can be a bit iffy at times, but quite a good concept)
Liqour Store (Giving you those little extra boosts. Though, the update did damage this one a bit.)
Art and Character Design (Flawless in my opinion. Likeable characters and concepts that are intriguing and beautiful to look at. Not actual graphics.)
Dungeons/Difficulty/Party Work. (Very good for me, though I don't tend to group up much. Dungeons can get repetitive, but they held me. Introducing traps later on added a new feature of difficulty.)
Character Customization. (What's to be said?)

I am probably missing a few there, but those are my main points.

Bad Points:
Actual graphics (Slow loading of textures and terrain itself, as well as particular outlines on models that make it incredibly hazy, almost ruining your ideal character at times until you zoom in to make out the features better.)
Performance (Frame Rate is unnaceptable at times. I play on High graphics with 1440x900 resolution, on a gaming rig. My computer can handle much worse than this, such as Far Cry 3 on Ultra with 1680x1050 resolution. Apart from frame rate, the connectivity is quite bad, rendering combat difficult at times.)
Overly complicated systems and gameplay mechanics. (I won't go pinning this on any particular one, because I cannot think of many off the top of my head. I just know that there are some I heavily dislike.)

I'm willing to hear you guys' opinions on these things, and your own good points and bad points. If you don't like this post because of my opinions, then so be it. Everyone is entitled here.
Group work? What's that?

Good: Aesthetic, Gameplay

Not Good: Hitboxes/Lag, lack of invincibility frames.

Bad: Monetization. $5 Gachapon for a small chance at a costume with the inability to trade or sell the items you get is a joke and I can't see the game lasting long. Blatant whale exploiting I'd expect to see in a mobile phone game. Also Durability; most games would force you to pay money to upgrade it without risk, this game does that, and forces you to pay money to avoid it becoming ruined just by using it. :x

Right now the only problem for me are:

- Lack of Options: Graphic options, key options, blocking people, guilds, the usual things? Though they seem to be working on them, so let's wait patiently.
- Economy: Thought for 20 seconds, couldn't find a word to describe this. Sorry, I'll keep it like that.
- Lag: I never saw this game without lag, and I still enjoyed it to be honest, which is absolutelly amazing. Shows how decent, responsive, fluid and... I don't know, in the spot of difficulty this game is. Combat is perfect, nothing to add or take, at all. 11/10... for combat, not for lag. For a quite skill-based game that employs the constant use of Blocking and Dodging, lag isn't an option.
- Chatting: It's annoying honestly. The usual /s, /p, /w commands don't work, you have to press enter, click on the tab to change the thing, then press enter again to allow the tab again, now you can speak in that tab (if it's whisper it is even worse), literally, I speak with my friends on steam instead of ingame.
- Inviting for Parties: Right now the command invite in the friend list doesn't work, but it is there. So... it's something that should be working. Right now you must personally meet someone so add to party, just makes it harder to find people. Having a pointer indicating the direction your party members are in the map when they disappear from what you can see of the map would be great too.
- Audio Synch on Cutscenes: ... seriously? It breaks the mood sometimes when someone starts speaking before the last person ends speaking. F...fix that! Now! Come on!

Good things of the game? Well, lots of them:

Anime Feels: You are literally the protagonist of an Action/Adventure/Fantasy anime, finding new partners to beat the evil of the world. It gets everything like it should be in that kind of story, awesome, just awesome.
Graphics: People might say graphics suck. You don't know what is sucky 3D graphics until you play old PS1 games like Spawn or Wild Arms. I'll be honest, it literally isn't the best graphic around, I could point another anime game with better gra- Aura K.. *cough* phics, but I still think they are pretty decent, and considering you remember they aren't supposed to be good, everything goes fine.
- Combat: Not as complex (and tiring) as T*RA, neither too point-click like W*W, getting some G**** Wars 2 feels with dodging but improving with blocking, in the right ammount of everything, combat feels GREAT! Challenging enough so you can feel like grinding for hours, it's... it's just in the right spot, they nailed this when making this game.
- Weapons: Middle-Age B****rlands, [choose your weapon]gastik, this game has a lot of different cool looking weapons with cool looking different skills. Since you walk with just a few around (that are actually usefull for different things) everything is properly valued and you never feel like your gameplay is repetitive Guild *cough* Rs *cough* 2, it's amazing. And of course, all the enhance system... that's the thing man, that's the thing.
- Voice Action: The Japanese are known for great voice acting and we properly have all of that here. Enjoying it soooo much, also, Yoshitsune you're the best.

And more, this thing is getting too extensive, I stop here for now.
Honokka - Defensive: Spear/Staff Master.

Seriously though, it shouldn't be difficult to fix their chat system. The problem with it is that they automatically add the chat mode in front of the message and send it. What they should have done is check for the first char of the message if it start with a command symbol '/', then check the second character for which message style it should send. If the first character does not start with a command symbol, than use the chat mode method that the user has selected. It is such an easy fix for any programmer to be honest.

The lag is definitely an issue. In an action game, it's very difficult when enemies and their skills are not always where they appear to be. I find myself constantly having to compensate for that. I can't trust that the enemy I see my spear "hitting" is actually getting hit or that the fireball I see myself dodge really missed me.

If they could just iron that out better, I really wouldn't have any other problems with the game.

The character and monster designs are amazing. (Sooo tired of the "usual" Orcs and Elves crap.) I like the crafting system. I love how the game is less about gear and more about skill. (No dice-roll combat.) The music and voice-overs are well done. (Despite the occasional lip-sync malfunction.) And, while I've seen complaints about the Cash Shop, I got the costume I wanted out of the nyankoropon without much trouble, (that cat loves me), and I've had no need for the rest of the CS since.
