Chance to Dodge Ornamentations

I was asking myself quite a while now, how this mechanic even works. I crafted a few Magatamas and put the "1/14 Chance to Dodge Blows" on it - one even has it twice on it. Once that was done I decided to try it out and noticed no difference at all. I stood in front of monsters and kept getting hit without any hint of dodging any of the attacks. So now I wonder how this is supposed to work. Does anybody know about this?

By the way, the ornamentation I mean is called "Crimson Mystery".
