Good grind spot in Hokurikudo/Echigo?

Postby Nobake » 03 Aug 2014, 04:58

I just can't bring myself to run Secluded Forest anymore, I've been at it since low 50's and I'm 68 now. But as far as I can tell the new dungeons are all terrible in terms of XP/time in comparison, and SF isn't even that great anymore.

I see dungeons that:
-Are barely worth any more than SF but take significantly longer to clear.
-Have mobs with really high HP that take forever to kill.
-Have many dangerous things that I can't pull in a group or they kill me (Blue Penanggalan, Bakeneko, etc.), making the run take forever.
-Have some combination of the above.

Am I missing something in the new zones? Or is the answer just to choose between "Go back to grinding SF" or "Level an alt until you get bored and quit"?

Bow user... clearing SF since lvl 50, bored of clearing SF at 68

TEACH MEH

But yeah... instead of feeding or soloing SF, you tried actually clearing SF yourself on 5man hell. The exp is great all the way up to lvl 80+

Would say it's Goukiri's meeting place if you can grab a full 5 and aren't quite ready for estate/want to finish runs faster.

Estate is generally all around good.

I think undersea cave works, but it'd require a cooperation from 5 people if you want a decent cleartime.

I'm Level 66:

Gouriki's Meeting Point Hell took 4:36 and gave 10734 pooled experience (SS=32202)

Secluded Forest Hell took 5:44 and gave 14695 pooled experience (SS=44085)

And then I tried the Estate, only had done it the once for the story so I was not as familiar:
Echigo Estate Hard took 7:14 and gave 19545 pooled experience with the daily 30% experience, so it would normally be 13682 pooled experience (SS=41045)

Yesterday I ran Jellyfish Cave Hell for the first time trying to be safe and not die and it took 13:22 and gave 45,319 pooled experience with the daily 30% experience, so it would be 31723 normally (SS=95169). But even if I could do this faster it would still be pretty inefficient just because it is so far from the repair area. I did Hard as well and it was basically the same as Secluded Forest Hell, but still too far away from Partner NPCS. It takes about 2 minutes and 40 seconds to repair and re-enter the dungeon.

Echigo Estate Hell took 17:11 and I got wrecked dying 3 times  It gave 43,182 pooled experience with the daily 30%, so it would normally be 30227 experience (SS=90681) Which was actually worse than Jellyfish Cave Hell for me in the 1 run for both I did. Although I played really bad in the estate I think playing safer just to get the SS like I did in Jellyfish Cave would still be worse than just doing Jellyfish Cave.

But yeah at my level, at least solo like I usually am, Secluded Forest is still the best. Haven't tried Marlin's Den much but I remember it having some pretty annoying enemies as well, and I did run Plover pit yesterday but don't remember how much it gives, but like Jellyfish cave it is far from repairing NPCS :\.

I can't do Echigo Estate effectively, the Musha have too much HP and the Bakeneko and Ungaikyou kill me if I'm not EXTREMELY careful.

I tried Gouriki a few more times and it seems like it might have potential. Solo it doesn't seem as good as SF, but definitely the closest I've seen. With some practice it might be worthwhile, or maybe I'll try to get a party for once.

And actually I think the first time I ran SF was around 45, but I could only start Hell mode at 53 or so. Plus there was questing and such, so serious grinding didn't start until around then.

Well, I'm not Khlora and he seems to clear dungeons faster than I. But here's what I got. Keeping track of this stuff is good, because I really want to find somewhere else to go.
Using 3x Gare bows (+40 or 50). XP values are the pool XP before any modifiers from boosts, login bonuses, or ranking bonuses.
More or less complete now. Got a small number of failed runs to retry, but if I failed them in the first place they're likely too dangerous for me to really try to grind.

Kaga dungeons (Hell) wrote:Bamboo Thicket Well
9173 XP in 6:38
Enemy composition pretty similar to Gouriki.

Secret Water Garden
10978 XP in 13:29
Most of the dungeon is quick and easy, boss takes a long time to kill.

Momiji Well
10698 XP in 6:15
Last room is pretty awesome, the rest is mediocre. Lots of Gaki and similar creatures.

Secluded Forest
13448 XP in 6:08
I guess most of us know this dungeon by now.

Elder Forest
10634 XP in 10:11
Mukade and Ubume don't stay grouped. Got 1shot by a stray Kappa spear, then by a Musha Archer, then got caught in an Onibasami charge. Subtract a minute or so for an SS run and it still sucks.

Suisen Forest
7957 XP in 7:47
Lots of hard to kill mobs.

Grand Forest
5595 XP in 4:24
Just not worth much. Also lots of Mukade.

Forest of Humanity
9520 XP in 8:24
High HP mobs.

Prospector's Forest
10016 XP in 7:54
Mukade, Nozuchi, and Ubume burrow/fly and won't stay grouped up. Single target everything=slow. Also died once to Musha Archers, they hurt.

Central Koshi-no-Shiraen
Uncompleted - ran out of durability.

Hokurikudo dungeons (Hell, unless otherwise noted) wrote:Plover Pit
Uncompleted - Bakeneko killed me too many times. (will retry)

Old Hokurikudo 1st Line
10013 XP in 7:56
Bakezouri and Mukade are awful to try to kill quickly.

Jellyfish Cave
Uncompleted - Ran out of durability. (will retry)

Old Hokurikudo 2nd Line
18747 XP in 11:50
Aburasumashi and/or Musha Cannoneers in every pull. Had to single target everything.

Marlin's Den
7691 XP in 9:54 (Normal)
Died 3 times in Normal, unable to complete any higher.

Gouriki's Meeting Point
10840 in 7:18 (really good run for me, normal is right around 8:00)
Not much to say, short and easy. Mobs have considerably more HP than in SF, so it takes longer.

Old Hokurikudo 3rd Line
12307 XP in 11:56
Aburasumashi are a pain, and Gama have high HP.

Hermit Crab Grotto
11944 XP in 11:32 (Normal); 19406 XP in 16:40 (Hell)
Massive improvement over the last time I tried this dungeon (as in, I cleared it). How on earth you would clear this fast enough to be worthwhile I don't know.

Echigo dungeons (Hell except the last two) wrote:Echigo Estate
32246 XP in 25:54
Died twice in the room with the Ungaikyou on the first floor. Very nearly ran out of durability. Do not currently do enough damage to clear a room before running out of SP.

Ice Caverns
Uncompleted - Saw a dozen Cannoneers in the first room and left :P

Yamanba Villa
Uncompleted - Killed by the thundercats
On top of my problems fighting Bakeneko in general, there's the same problem as Echigo Estate where I can't clear a room before running out of SP.

Undersea Cave
15148 XP in 16:05 (Normal)
Slower than I could've gotten, but doesn't really matter. There's blue Penanggalan, its going to be slow. For the same reason, can't do any higher difficulty.

Sado Mine
Didn't take exact numbers
This is just here for completeness I guess. Died I think 5 times and took about 40 minutes to clear Normal. Not a place for me to grind.

*I'd love to put these lists in spoilers but at least by the preview they don't seem to be supported...

Thx for your hard work, nobake. It really helps
Well, i guess it depends on our job about clearence time, and ofc depends on our gears.
For me, mage, i can finish that prospector forest faster, and finish the other dungeon a lot slower
Once again, thx for the data ;)
