Cast speed is broken

Postby Cinder » 09 Nov 2014, 10:32

Just in case anyone wanted to know or cared, cast speed is broken. Attack speed raises how fast you cast, while cast speed does literally nothing. This can be tested with magatamas and such. This is kinda bad for wand, as some of the cast animations are pretty lengthy and wis is supposed to add cast speed. Honestly, I feel the separation between cast speed and attack speed is just weird. Would it be so bad if both strength and wisdom (attack and cast speed passives) made you faster regardless of your weapon?

Edit: Made a video showing the difference with and without 37 attack speed. There's a timer in the upper right that I started and stopped when the skill started and ended (returned to normal pose). It proves that attack speed is being used instead of cast speed. https://vimeo.com/111389001

while i cant be bothered to check if what you write is true, your suggestion of making wisdom AND power boost BOTH attack speeds is amazingly interesting. im totally for this change as it opens up a lot of builds for noncasters, too.

Cast speed isn't broken. I've used Asuka (+20 A.Spd. and M. Cst. Spd.) and tested before. I know for a fact that staves are affected by it, but I didn't really test wand.

I think instead of affecting both speeds, there should be only one speed stack that affects all weapons, both wis and power could pump that stat. I kinda 'get' physical and magic attack as stats, since they have respective defenses, but I don't understand why they need different speed stats as well.

Yes.. and like I said, casting is affected by attack speed, not cast speed. Asuka has attack speed on it, so you would cast faster after drinking it.

Oh. Forgot to mention I have reckless to test attack speed with and it doesn't affect staves. Therefore, it has to be the cast speed.

I was just testing it with staves and attack speed magas. It's the same as wand, attack speed is definitely making it faster. Maybe it's hard to tell with the skills you're trying it on?

Hm... perhaps? I'll try it again later.

I showed ryxa the difference with a longer casting skill (satan ougi) and they agreed that attack speed was making a difference. Made a video showing the difference with and without 37 attack speed. There's a timer in the upper right that I started and stopped when the skill started and ended (returned to normal pose). It proves that attack speed is being used instead of cast speed (sorry for potato quality). https://vimeo.com/111389001

Though I don't have a video I can back this up. The difference in "cast" speed with four Nightingales equipped(a total of 40% cast speed) is either non-existent or so irrelevant that the stat may as well not even exist. Four Deers(a much smaller total of 28% attack speed) made a very clear difference in skill animation.

I wasn't able to test every single skill but it's enough to know that cast speed, whatever it may do, does not function as a Wand/Staff counterpart to the physical attack speed stat.
