Weapon Viability Discussion

Postby SupremeTentacle » 06 Jan 2015, 02:13

Good day,

A few months ago, the group that I play with had decided to (eventually) start writing a document on balancing the various weapons.

Before we got started, I just wanted to know what the community felt - just to make sure that our thoughts are not too out of line. Naturally, once it's actually been completed, it will be posted somewhere and subject to further community review.

If you have any pressing concerns, or any opinions about the viability and relative strength of weapons, feel free to post below.

Note that if you are posting, bias is fine (though minimal bias is preferred). However, even with bias, please consider things from every angle that you can possibly think of. Consideration of counter arguments to your points, as well as things that may balance out your points is an asset.

For example, my personal favourites that I would touch on are:

-Attack Speed
-Mobility
-Burst Damage
-DPS
-Mobbing Ability
-Build convenience (skills, gear, etc)
-Build variety (not everyone running the same setup...)
-Utility
-Overall effectiveness
-Major drawbacks (or lack thereof)
-EN specific nerfs affecting balance that would have been fine elsewise
-Cancelling (or lack thereof)

Please, by all means, do not feel limited based on what I have mentioned above. If you have your own thoughts that don't fit into those categories, then great, post away. You also do not have to consider all of that I have listed, as that would be involving a weapon as a whole, whereas comments about a specific part of a weapon are also accepted in this thread.

Well i haven't really played anyother weapon besides bow and twinsword so i'm not gonna try to act like i know about every weapon so i'm just gonna put out the flaws i found while using twinsword .... so basically i find that twinsword lacks a lot in burst damage skills the only ones i know are true spirit blast and sheol slash ougis in my opinion they need either more burst damage skills or reduce the amount of combo hits in skills such as misty massacre while increasing the damage per hit. I'd like to point out its very difficult to kill tanky mobs in edo with twinswords u have to possition your self correctly if you want to get a full combo in while being in range and not miss or accidentally get hit by a random musha arrow or a random fireball..

Edit: I forgot to mention the charge time for sheol slash is ridiculous long and leaves you wide open to get wrecked i suggest they allow you to move while charging the skill or reduce dmg take while charging by a significant amount

I feel like the Dual Swords and Daring Class are a better choice than being a Power Type and having a normal sword. This comes from experience, as my lvl 52 Daring with Chidori is doing more damage, and having an easier time in dungeons, than my main had been at those same dungeons, who's a Power type with sword and odachi.

It'd be nice if Swords and Odachi were balanced a bit better, as the sword feels too weak, despite its speed, in contrast to the Odachi, which is slow, and also feels weak. I just don't feel like I'm getting enough damage in, unless I'm spamming skills, and I've got a pretty high POW.

Power types have a much easier time obtaining magatamas tbh all their good magas are sold by miroku but i haven't played those weapons so i'm not sure how viable they are but from what i've seen odachi has a much higher base damage on their weapon which is probably why they are slow but still faster than axe

On that note, thought that I would bring in a concern about wand mobility here, and a great suggestion that Yvona made.

For those who use wands and staves, you know that your shift button literally does nothing for you except waste your durability. Takes about 250 durability to just heal a simple 2.1k SP. Meanwhile, every other class has a form of guard along with the ability to just guard for even more effect...

As Yvona suggested, why don't we replace it with a directional invul-frame teleport instead? Kinda like the one in PSO2. IMO one of wands biggest weakness is the fact that they can't really deal with any attack that is coming their way post-skill windup. Other weapons are able to cancel the majority of their moves into a block of some sort- and a lot of mechanics in this game revolve around having the guard ability. I feel that this would fix a lot of our problems.
Wedge flexes a lot.
