I like this idea. In fact, I like most of the ideas in this thread addressing fairly 'critical' endgame issues.

However, it would be nice to add some more functionality to the partners; MAYBE (and this is a big maybe) enable partner usage to trigger some sort of dungeon scaling? (which I suppose would necessitate locking partner switch while inside dungeon) So solo + partner dungeon scales a little up from standard solo, and 5man + 5 partner scales more than standard 5man etc... Would be a nominal, but appreciated extension of grind utility in certain areas.

But anyways, back to the original suggestion; yeah, partners are absolutely terrible in later game as far as combat utility. If they had maybe a single weapon(that doesn't use durability), and say like 2 or 3 maga slots. And you could put a new weapon in there, or some old already ornamented magas you don't really use anymore. And their stats could 'scale' based on that; maybe create some partner default items that scale to their current utility; so arguably, you could put in even worse gear and make them less effective. But allowing you to mildly tweak damage potential and skill variety could be nice. They would also presumably use the skills on the weapon you give them (except for ougis I guess, that could be abusable i guess; like 5man + 5ameratsu w 2xdark gate each or something to create a continuous massive area denial field against tons of mobs and probably lag like crazy); and who doesn't have a bunch of weapons they've outleveled or replaced that actually have some pretty good skills on them, are +60+, etc? Since trading has a "fixed" oc loss from taxes, people don't really trade that much mid level stuff; primarily min 100+ things, or junk with ougi for extraction. All these mid level weapons are basically trash once you replace them with the next one. You can't even "give them away" because of minimum prices that nobody would pay.

Back from the trade system tangent; it would be a positive change if there was an extension of partner combat usefulness; like if my partner affection is maxed to some state which required quest completion in edo; It should stand to reason that my partner should be able to kill things in a reasonable timeframe in like a level 50 or 60 dungeon? They should absolutely obliterate things in a low level dungeon right? nope.

Also as mentioned earlier, would be a good 'outlet' for outgrown/leveled but still pretty good magas/weapons
