No to question one.

My shizuka is at lv24, can it go to 25? Hoping to get that inventory space.

Yes you can. As of now you can level her upto 26, which is her maximum level for this content.

Hey guys, new to the game, just started cause of the console release. So gonna ask a few of questions. Did search but might have used the wrong keywords and all since I don't know all the terms yet so didn't get any results or got results unrelated. These are probably noob questions so sorry if they have obvious answers I just missed.

1. Weapon vanity? Is there any way to change the appearance of your weapon? Been looking up some on the wiki and I find a lot of high level weapons really... ugly.

2. When is it suggested to heavily upgrade anything? I generally just get my set to +10 and not bother with the smelting but it seems I might have to start since my output feels very low.

3. Related to 2. Think I read somewhere that you shouldn't bother to upgrade/smelt rare weapons at low level because of the cost? At what point should you start upgrading rares at all?

4. I noticed that a lot of monsters really started hitting hard after a point, is this game intended for party play with having a healer or something? I solo'd all the way to Kaga. It was pretty annoying dealing with mobs that 2-3 shot you, especially with the frame rate, animation bugs and glitches. (Not VIT build so I can't exactly take hits much.)

5. I'm gonna take it that after a certain point, regular attacks become nothing but a way to restore some SP and most combat involves dodging and spamming skills?

6. Suggested level to bother with ougi skills?

Sadly, nope.

2. When is it suggested to heavily upgrade anything? I generally just get my set to +10 and not bother with the smelting but it seems I might have to start since my output feels very low.

Always, since they reduced smelting costs for lower leveled weapons. Don't upgrade too hard though, stop once you feel strong enough.

3. Related to 2. Think I read somewhere that you shouldn't bother to upgrade/smelt rare weapons at low level because of the cost? At what point should you start upgrading rares at all?

As I said in response to your second question, they reduced the costs, so it doesn't matter anymore. Not as much anyways.

4. I noticed that a lot of monsters really started hitting hard after a point, is this game intended for party play with having a healer or something? I solo'd all the way to Kaga. You're supposed to die in 1 hit. That's just how the game goes.

5. I'm gonna take it that after a certain point, regular attacks become nothing but a way to restore some SP and most combat involves dodging and spamming skills?

You don't even use normal attacks at all later on; they're completely worthless besides to break chests and stuff.

6. Suggested level to bother with ougi skills?

Echigo content cap.
Selling all of my gear for ~40% of its market value!
~4 lv. 108 to 115 weapons remaining
Some skill card 7's, ougi, orna'd maga and other stuff too!

1. No.

2. By the time you're level 80 or 90 you should be consistently making (at the minimum) +50 and preferably +100s.

3. Refer to above.

4. The support class in this game is good for nothing but speed boosts and mana (And the occasional attack boost). Healing, and in fact health in general, become increasingly useless as you get close to late game. In fact, the current end game meta will require you to intentionally keep your hp below half or even lower depending on your build for optimal damage.

5. Regular attacks aren't even good for restoring SP. If you have to regular attack to restore sp, you're likely going to die regardless of how skilled you are. Refer to what I said about the "support" class and mana healing (Although honestly, everyone should have a staff with support skills).

6. Secluded Forest - Echigo is where you should start considering Ougis.

On a side note: I wouldn't consider these noob questions. You're asking the right questions for where you are in the game right now (I'm assuming you're under level 30 since you said you just started). On the other hand, if you were in your hundreds and asking these questions (And trust me, there are people who are in their hundreds and ask these questions), then you'd be a "noob".

Edit: Blegh. He beat me to it by a little bit.

I *wish* we could change the appearance of weapons. There aren't many that I'd consider both aesthetically pleasing and powerful. Seriously, the Failnaught looks like something I push out my corn hole when I've not had enough fibre in my diet.

Thanks for the answers.

Bit disappointing about the weapons, might actually play a different class just because of it as I'm someone who definitely prefers looks over stats, but if the stats are that much of an importance, meh.

So in the end, the end game is basically dodge or die and spam skills? I'm assuming players just load up on SP potions or something and group of mobs then AoE them with some overpowered skill and repeat til done or something?

What you described is closer to mid game content. Kaga and Echigo are extremely heavy on mobbing up large groups of monsters and then trying to kill them in one go. Monsters there don't have as large of a max health pool so there's certain gameplay mechanics that you don't notice yet (The main one being that each spell only does max damage to a certain amount of enemies before it does little to none).

End game is more like... rush enemies one by one and if you don't have the damage to kill them in one hit (Not one spell, but one hit. Important distinction here.) you're likely to die right there. Every extra second you have to stand near an enemy is another second you can get one-shot killed by a stray attack. Bosses become a dodge and just guard type thing where a mistake usually means death. Also, SP pots typically don't help much since you have to stop to use one. If you run out of SP, you're probably going to die anyways. If you run out of spells and they're all on cooldown, you're probably going to die anyways. If you run out of movement speed, you're probably already dead anyways. Refer to what I said about having a support provide SP healing/sustain and speed boosts (The speed thing is probably the most important followed closely by SP). The thing with late game is that it's not very forgiving. This game isn't going to baby you like the modern generation of games. There's a lot of little things you need to learn to manage.

I'm not trying to scare you off or anything, but that's just simply how this game is. Too challenging and unforgiving at times? Perhaps. But it is what it is.

It's no issue, as someone who's playing FFXIV and doing end game raids, pretty much the majority of all fight mechanics are 1-2hit kills, so I'm use to it.

What I'm not use to is the FPS and delay. I find I die a lot trying to attack a monster only for it to not even be where I'm attacking but be bugged and is on the side preparing some attack.
