Onigiri magic users: Glass Cannon Mode(no this isnt a guide)

Postby Apollyon » 06 Nov 2015, 21:51

ok so the gist of it is that I am a magic user, or at least a very recent one. my only real expertise on here is Dex Twinblades, so this is pretty new to me, anyway, I asked one of my old friends what the best stat placement would be, and he told me full Wis (or whatever the magic stat is, my apologies if thats the wrong one.) He told me that's glass cannon mode, the most effective way to play a magic user.

Of course I felt like that was total BS, I know what Glass Cannon is, high attack low defence and HP so easier death.

but after I got into my new magic based character I could see...very, very, VERY, low damage output when i casted/did the default magic attack.

So i'm wondering, is it possible to do anything other than glass cannon? Cause from the damage output, it seems like thats the only way anyone can play a magic type, and I don't want to be that way.

On a side note, I wanted to be a Healer/Mage type, I asked my friend about that to but he gave me a bunch of BS answers that confused me more than anything. Basically I want to be able to heal, since i guess it gets wayyyy more brutal in the higher levels, but I still want to be able to dish out alot of magic damage, from the sound of what he was saying, thats an impossible build to do.
So yeah, just want more than 1 persons advice, especially since my friend is confusing me more than anything.

note: i'm from PS4

Cure is something you use when you're jealous of someone's lvl 105 magatama

There are a few reasons that there aren't many healers in this game:
  1. Anyone can use healing skills as long as they have the mnd for it
  2. Lots of things later in the game one-shot you anyway
  3. The strongest magatama require players to stay under 50% hp (eg. Dancing Water Magatama), thus the ^
  4. Chiami is usually better than any healer

It may be possible with Magic Magatama but note that hybrid magatama are weaker (than single skill force magatama) and maxing a single stat probably won't happen until level 70+ (raising two will take a lot longer so both of the weapons won't be getting much affinity).

Generally, yes. Especially at the later levels. Damage output/rate is probably the most important thing in this game IMO.

Default attacks are always weak. Even the swift/card versions become weak later.

Keep in mind that wand = high funding weapon type.

You need to be really lucky with your ornamentation, since you need elements.

The reason that wand is one of the strongest weapons (well, technically THE strongest weapon at maximum possible potential) is that they have ridiculous scaling with elements.
Selling all of my gear for ~40% of its market value!
~4 lv. 108 to 115 weapons remaining
Some skill card 7's, ougi, orna'd maga and other stuff too!

from the sound of things, it looks like I should just be a main magic user then?
I'm not complaining I dont mind that, and Yeah I know that alot of things mostly 1-2 hit you in later levels, I was just silently hoping i could find a way to keep me and other people alive, guess I shouldn't hold my hopes to high for that though haha.
Also those first two links you sent seem to focus on the Twins, in more detail, i'm dumping my twins and going full magic user, its a personal thing.

Anyway, if Healing isnt that much use later on, then I won't worry about it, now my base question is:

Is Glass Cannon the way to go, since you get 1-2 hit by things later on anyway, so health and defence dont sound like much of a worry.

Or try something else to keep me alive longer?

Those were just to show why cure isn't used much.

The 105 magatama are more or less the same for each weapon type (they just have switched elements). Here's the wand one. I just put down the TS one since it's easier for me to remember.

Best way to increase your survival would be to equip a spear and switch to it to guard. Spear have the highest damage reduction on guarding.

Edit: Actual Wand link this time.

sigh, will someone help please? I just want to know if being a Glass Cannon is a good idea or not, I don't want to waste my status points by putting them in the wrong places please.

Glass cannon is the only viable way to play this game with any weapon.

If it's just stat points, then, full wis. Add mnd if you're lacking sp (it increases passive sp requirements for every 10 points). Note that wis also reduces sp cost for wand/staff so you may not need it much. Later on, you may want to consider some dex (for more damage), but that's probably a long way away when you have maxed affinity.

TL;DR Full wis unless you run out of sp a lot.
