You mean like this?

Note that this video also demonstrates that Ougi are not game breaking.

Also, at the OP!

With spears early game... you want to kite.

Something like this, but its easier with spears

Wait, spear-users take longer to level up?

I kind of suspected as much, since I played for a day or two on the JP server with dual swords and leveled up about twice as fast as I did on this CBT (by only using spears).

Anyway, even though I didn't get too far in the beta test, I think spears were much better than dual swords/bows at LEAST. You have some range to attack large mobs with your aoe dmg, which becomes super useful the further you get into the game. When the mobs get a bit too close to you, roll out and/or use a skill to knock them back. Blocking is SUPER useful for attacks you won't have time to dodge (Esp the boss attacks).

Can anyone explain how they could block attacks coming from behind? I thought you could only block the ones in front...

Your experience would be due to the lowered exp rates in the NA CBT.

Little tips for the spear user :D Use the weapon that has elemental skills especially Ice Blossom, Water Dragon Spear or lightning Crush, if you want get crazy use rolling thunder :D On some point water dragon spear will increase the quantity of the Geyser just like Rufei posted, on JP I see 3 Geysers :D

@supremetentacle : what is an ougi o_o? sorry but I never get a weapon that has an ougi skill on it...
1 more question, is Ice blossom and Ice blossom Immediately is diferent skill? or it upgraded version of the Ice blossom skill?

Blanc wrote:The main problem I've had with Wind Thrust was fact that you had to stand there for a while. I actually solo most of my dungeons (Yakumo Temple was an absolute nightmare, but I triumphed), so when the monsters only focus on you, even the slightest delay can become lethal. Also, I've noticed that Wind Thrust doesn't deal it's full damage against a moving enemy, or mobs of them. Not sure if it's a problem with my positioning or it's an inherent property of the skill. Despite having a longer cooldown, Spike Thrust does the same damage, has similar cast range, and a shorter cast time.

It costs more as well. Remember that costs scale as you go up in skill rank.

Blanc wrote:Once again, the cast time is actually lethal in solo play. In party play, if you can somehow acquire the skill on your weapon, go crazy.

It's quite short, actually. Very easy to set up and it has good sweep as well. You can also roll out to cancel if need be.

Blanc wrote:Never got a rank IV and above of that skill. Good to know as well. Seems like overkill for ordinary mobs now.

Overkill for a single mob, easily worth it for a full room.

Blanc wrote:I don't remember have subsequent hits, so is that a rank IV and V thing? I once again chose Lunge Step because of it's cast time. After your slash, you're pretty much free to tumble towards the side and continue kiting. Most of the other useful skills don't have the flexibility of kiting. And if anyone Lunges into an enemy about to attack you, then he deserves to die. The mana cost was not too high as far as I remember. My only problem with it was the cooldown.

It was Rank IV I think. It also incurs the same mp cost per hit. As for the tracking, it makes it hard to estimate the lunge because the enemy's action is still arbitrary at or beyond the full lunge length. If you close this distance to set the enemy into something, then it does that weird "sorta not really going anywhere with this."

Blanc wrote:<Was a solo-ist. Tumbling allowed me to attack the enemy's unprotected flank. And block was somewhat unreliable for me considering it got broken all the time.

I tumbled a lot, but blocked a lot as well. I soloed some dungeons as well, and for the most part I spent my time with just a healer, so I had to also avoid enemies in the same way.

Block can never break, but you don't get the damage reduction properties if you're hit from behind. AOE effects are resolved by drawing a ray from you to the originating monster's center, so even if the AOE goes off behind you, if you're facing the monster and guarding it will count as a successful guard. Now, if the monster goes behind you, it's advised that you turn your camera and reset your guard before it hits. Failure to do so may allow Odin to kanchou you with his sword...

The video shows two different ranks of the same skill, which sets them on different cooldowns I think.

Never go power if you want damage on spear.

After your vit is close to maxed out, or reached a point where it becomes inefficient to add it, add Dex instead of power. This will pump up your dps via crit damage and crit rate.
