No. Defense is flat, and will do almost nothing towards damage that comes in large bursts as opposed to smaller ticks.

I was pointing out that what you were saying is, in all practicality, not going to help him. I didn't mention a counter-argument to the healer thing because I thought that it was quite pointless to, as its not only addressed in part two, but implied to be useless due to the nature of the boss, which is capable of OHK-ing you in the case that you do not constantly attempt to avoid hits.
The mechanics of the defense magatama also really does make it alot less useful than you think.
As far as I, and others who I know have experimented, know, defense is based on a flat rate per hit, implying that its good against things that spread their damage out across multiple hits. However, against bosses like Nyaruko, who do all of your HP in a single satellite cannon, its completely and utterly useless. The same mechanic applies to a healer, which assists you under the assumption that you don't get insta'd - or still reposed, as there's no way a healer can outheal Nyaruko's dps when you are still reposed between her and two of her tentacles.
tl;dr
The Space CQC is lacking in this one.
