or what they could do is limit speed boosts like Moon King to ONLY outside dungeons or while not in combat, so that Moon King can be buffed

The thing with mounts is that even if they might be expensive, if they are permanent then it's more useful in the long run, rather than a speed boost that only last x amount of seconds/minutes. Those speed boost might be more useful in dungeons that have huge areas or to catch up to the boss area.
Mount would be limited to outside of dungeons and out of combat.

Angelfire wrote:To be honest, there are games with smaller areas that have mounts, tons of mounts, so the size of the games map doesn't really matter. For example. Mabinogi's world map is not exactly huge, I'd say that each individual area is comparable in size to this game because like Onigiri, it isn't a true open world MMO. You are constrained to certain paths and towns on the map, with very limited "open world" areas to explore, yet they have more mounts than you could ever want x.x; Vanity pets as well. So yes. Map size is not a judge of whether or not there will be mounts in a game. It's all up to the developers and what they want. It would be nice to see some mounts but then again, annoying if the mounts are bound to a single character on an account and you have to re-buy them for each character. (Unlike Mabinogi where you can summon your mounts on all characters because the mounts take up a character slot)

Mabinogi maps are small O.o? I mean sure it's small if you count the towns in Uladh but Iria is freaking massive (even then, the towns are still decently large...) Considering it takes a good 10 minutes to walk across Tara, I'd say it's big enough to warrant mounts and not to mention your mounts being rather useful with their AoE sleep/heal/buff/freeze/debuff/stun/knockback/etc on being summoned.

I don't think Angelfire meant that it wasn't big enough to warrent mounts, just that the structure of the game is similar enough that you could justify having mounts in Onigiri because the maps in Uldah are separated in a similar way, and that Mabinogi has a ton of mounts. So potentially, so could Onigiri.

And err...10 minutes to walk across Tara? XD; I don't think it takes that long....Maybe on a human I guess o.o; But most of the time in a SM you can run someplace in maybe...under 3 minutes.

But actually Mabinogi is really small compared to games like Aion or other true open world MMO's.

Fair enough, but I honestly can't see mounts in Onigiri at least in the forseeable future when we're lacking basic MMO functions like trading (like player to player trades not the stalls), Guilds, and stuff like that... I'd rather they implement those features first before trying to milk us dry with mounts.

Oh and 10 minutes might be slightly exaggerated but it takes far longer than 3 minutes (unless you're on a mount). 3 minutes should probably get you from upper side to about slightly past the jousting arena or maybe the fashion show walkway if I'm not mistaken. And for the most part, most SMs in Tara have you heading to or from the town square so we're only using about slightly over a 1/3 of the map.

I agree. The game needs to be more stable before we get mounts. If we ever do.

I'm guessing you guys probably play on a human where the run speed is slower ? O.o; Tara has never seemed that inconvenient to cross to me unless I was on a human ^^;

Yeah, I'm a human xD. But I have no regrets because in fashionogi, fashion is more important than utility.

To be honest, I don't think it would do well for the look of the game. Sure mounts are great and you can move around faster, but they are rendered almost useless due to the portal function of the game. Also, if there are any segments outside of dungeons and towns, they're not wide or open enough to allow travel to be well... useful. Especially when you can go to the void to teleport to your destination ((if you have entered its crystal)) and your destination is a small walk away. Not only that, but it is highly likely to be a cash shop item, much like other mmos.

I say we should put standard MMO features before mounts... I want an actual trading system first and then a guild system before we bother expanding the cash shop too much...
