Did I mess up really bad?

Postby SamiJami » 17 Apr 2016, 07:31

I was leveling pow and vit when I got to the benkei quest and I thought it would be cool to be a tank so I switched to defensive, but now i can't kill anything and i'm getting killed earlier than before (???) is there a way I can fix this or am I screwed. I don't wanna spend money on the cash shop.

1. There are no 'tanks' in this game. You will get erased by most things later on.
2. VIT is useless unless you are a spear user. You can get health from
3. Get skill force magatama for your weapon class, this will boost damage.

FIXES: Assuming you put all your status points into VIT, you should become a spear user.

If you equipped defence boosting magatama; rip that shit off and swap it for the relevant skill force magatama for the weapons you use. Boosting defence in this game is about as useful as a chocolate kettle. Actually, you can eat a chocolate kettle, so that'd be more useful than boosting defence. Mobs and bosses around the Repair Benkai quest are already capable of one-shotting you if you're really unlucky and/or suck at guarding. I've heard that after Kaga, monsters suddenly get insanely powerful.

In order to pull off a POW/VIT hybrid, you're going to need to overlevel a bit so that you can keep up with specialists in terms of affinity. Because you'll have more than one weapon, you'll need sf mags for both (otherwise you'll have to switch mags every time you switch weapons), which means your skill force is going to be lower than that of specialists too. There are *some* hybrid mags, but high chakra costs mean you can't equip as many. I'd recommend having a good NPC partner and a good youkai with you at all times. I'd recommend Kijimuna Maiden/Empress. The only NPC partners available at the moment (as far as I'm aware) are Izuna and Gennai. I prefer Izuna, but I'm a Lolicon so go figure. Musashi is generally regarded as being the best, but she's no longer available, although I've heard another version of her is coming soon so maybe hold out for her.

I've just noticed you only mentioned levelling stats and not weapons. If you're just using one type of weapon (ie swords) then you're not boned just yet. When you finish Repairing Benkei, you get a Stat Point Reset. Use that to max out POW (assuming you're using Sword/Odachi/Axe) and then put some points into MND (For chaining skills) and DEX (for cooldown cut, crit and a little extra attack).

I run hybrids as well as specialists, and so far it hasn't bitten me on the arse. Then again, my main is Level 89 and hasn't been to Kaga yet. Heavily overlevelled, but so far not screwed. That may change around Echigo, from what I've heard.

TL;DR No. Anything you've done can still be fixed, unless you used the Stat Point Reset, in which case you might be fucked. You'd have to buy another to fix it.

As stated, if you last until the end of Kyoto, then you're given a free stat reset. IMO, you should be able to manage with affinity/skill force magatama (which you'll need anyway -all for a single weapon type, of course) and a few good weapons as long as your stats aren't too bad.

Yay i messed up in izumo but i try to keep my stats balanced and keep like 10 - 20 different weapons just in emergency if the durability gets low or if other weapons would be useful too :)

Just checking, but, by "balanced", you don't mean equal amounts in each, right?

That is exactly what i mean, it is my good stats and at least its possible to reset anyway so i am not worried :) also i didnt know defence is not good because i dont play it on PC, I am PlayStation gamer but now i know so i will just continue using even stats until i decide to get a reset stat thing :) also i ask question, is vit good because i figure it is a stat that lets you survive longer, am not a noob on onigiri because have been playing it on PS4 since PS4 launched with onigiri :)

Vit can be good early on for the hp bonuses, but there are probably better stats. The defence it adds is negligible and good hp can be reached with "fated contractor" ornaments, anyway. Pow also gives hp (not as much, though) while also giving p.atk spd and affinity bonuses for physical weapons. Vit is also problematic later on if you start using mags/weapons like these since it increases the rate of hp recovery.

Spreading stat points out too far is a very bad idea. I know, I tried it. My secondary (Ariel) had a balance between POW, VIT, MND and DEX at one point. She was insanely weak as a result. Hybriding of *that* extensiveness would require you to hit level cap ASAP, but even then it'll be problematic since you won't be able to hit max affinity, and you'll have to switch magatama every time you switch weapons. Two stats are the most you should hybrid on.

VIT is only useful if you're specialising in Spears since it raises Spear affinity. However, certain magatama require you to remain under a certain percentage of HP in order to get the full benefits, and a high VIT stat will make that borderline impossible. If you're not specialising in Spears, you don't need VIT.
